If you are thinking about embarking on a new healthy journey, be encourage to do it your way. Everyone of us faces times in our lives where getting healthier is important. Sometimes it comes because of a diagnosis, sometimes it comes because we simply want to feel better, which ever the reason it is always a good idea to be a good steward of your physical body, your mind, your finances and your surroundings.
It was in my late 20's that I decided I wanted to look better. I liked the way I looked as a young woman and the new version was getting bigger. I worked many hours at my job. I reverted to restaurant food often during my shifts. As you can imagine the older I became the more pounds started packing on. It was the time in my life where I realized my body wasn't burning calories like it used to.
I decided to try some of my old tricks to lose weight. Desperately trying to find a solution, I dropped calories, and junk food, nothing changed. Then I ventured from there all the way into starvation. The interesting thing about my body during this time frame is, it no longer worked the way it used to. I gained weight, or maintained, or couldn't sustain the diet as is usual with starvation. Frustration set in. Can anyone relate? I thought maybe there might be someone out there like me.
Interestingly enough, I felt the urge to head to the library for suggestions. I searched the health and diet sections and found a book written by Suzanne Sommers. It was a diet book originally made for diabetics. However, many women had found it helpful in losing weight. I decided to take it home and read it. Sorry, I do not remember the name of the book. However Suzanne has a new version out along with many other helpful books.
I wrote everything down I needed and started my plan. I now had a new diet in my health journey. Within a few months time frame I was a smaller size than in high school.
I loved this diet because I could eat all I wanted. I learned about food combining and what foods to avoid completely. I love her alternatives to the sweets as well. It took some adjusting in my life, but I was happier, healthier and skinny again.
This was the start of learning about my own body and the changes it has gone through over the years. If you are reading this now, you just may have your own reasons for starting on a health journey. It may be you want a healthier body, or a healthier mind, healthier finances.
Whatever your goals are, it is important to start with a goal in mind. You probably already have one. For me, I wanted to look better. It doesn't have to be lofty or over the top to be a goal. Just start with your true hearts desire. Put it into 1 or 2 words on a piece of paper, and post it, if you like. Or simply just take some time to ponder the reasons behind this goal. Soon you will find your true motivation for embarking on a new health journey.
Since my 20's, I have steadily changed my eating habits. I love to feel energetic and lively which has been my motivation since having my babies. My goal of looking amazing went by the way side and is replaced with something more sustainable for me. Feeling good is a deeper desire than my appearance. I want to thrive in my life.
